For a client, it might be a good idea to run both the old UA and the new GA4 simultanously for a transition period, for the ability to compare data points, as UA and GA4 uses different parameters and metrics for basically the same thing.
A transition period of at least six months is recommended, preferably a full year.
Ok, good to hear. The sooner the better since it will not be possible to migrate UA data to GA4. "Dual tracking" to both tools until UA shuts down is a recommendation I've seen.
Copy/paste from Google:
All standard Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits on July 1, 2023, and 360 Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits on October 1, 2023. After that, you’ll be able to access your previously processed data in Universal Analytics for at least six months.
This ability was shipped in Litium 8.5 July 2022.

Will that be for L8 only or will earlier versions (L7) get an update for this as well?

Yes we are planning to support Google Analytics 4, but it is too early to predict a date for when the support is to be released.
