When listing products in the backend it would be very helpfull to be able to see and sort the products (variants) based on Brand, Product type etc but this isn't possible at the moment since these attributes are only visible for the base products. When displaying the variants these fields become blank. It should be quite easy to let the variants inherit these attributes when listing the variants in the backend.
